Simon Berry has been engaged by the Thames-Coromandel District Council ("TCDC") in relation to its application to Environment Waikato for a renewal of its resource consents to take water from Matatoki and Omahu Streams. The application will be need to be considered in light of Environment Waikato's Water Allocation Variation ("RPV6") (which is currently subject to appeals), which provides priority for domestic and municipal supply, but also requires a comprehensive Water Conservation and Demand Management Plan to be prepared by TCDC, that will assess current and projected demand for water and set out mechanisms by which TCDC will manage that demand over the life of the consent. TCDC is currently completing technical and ecological analysis and a hearing in September is expected.
