HAMILTON CITY COUNCIL STORMWATER PROJECT
Simon Berry and Craig Malone represented the Hamilton City Council this year to obtain its comprehensive storm water discharge consent for the whole of Hamilton City, including future growth areas that will be subject to catchment management planning. As a result of significant engagement with the Waikato Regional Council, the comprehensive storm water discharge consent was granted on agreed conditions without the need for any hearing. Thirteen submitters, including Waikato-Tainui, also agreed to the conditions. Tim Harty, Water Services Manager, was delighted with the result, especially avoiding a hearing, and commented as follows in relation to the approach taken. He comments:
“The processes facilitated by you and your team in securing Hamilton City Council workable consents for both water take and stormwater discharge have required ground breaking approaches in both cases. Through working with key stakeholders and interested parties and the development of innovative suites of consent conditions, the team has minimised the need for expensive hearing processes. Hamilton has benefited in securing long term consents with conditions that not only ensure the protection of the environment, but also provide best value in terms of duration, stakeholder management and long term cost to the ratepayer.”
